Summer 1 Newsletter

Head teacher's Messages
Dear Families,
Welcome back to the Summer Term! I hope you had a restful break and enjoyed the sunshine.
Celebrating Festivals
In our assemblies this week, we explored the many recent festivals. Children shared their celebrations, leading to thoughtful discussions on common themes and the value of learning from one another. This reflects our core value of community and what makes Pinner Wood so special. We’re proud to welcome families from around the world and embrace each other’s heritages, religions, and cultures.
These conversations continued in our oracy assemblies—feel free to keep them going at home! You can find the slides here.
Next week, we’ll host school leaders from Bolton and South London for a Peer Review, focusing on how we foster a sense of belonging. I look forward to sharing their feedback with you.
Mini-Marathon
This Saturday, 40 of our students—mainly from Running Club—will take on the final mile (2.6km) of the Mini Marathon. We’re so proud of them and wish them the best!
Good luck also to Anjli Kothary (mum to Reeva and Ruhi), who’s running the full marathon for charity, and to any others in our community taking part!
St George’s Day Parade
We’re honoured to lead the St George’s Day Flag Parade organised by Pinner Rotary Club this Sunday at 2pm on Pinner High Street. We’d love to see lots of Pinner Wood students there—details below.
As always, this is a busy term—please check the updated dates we’ve shared to stay on top of things.
Warm wishes,
Miss Marriott

Values of the Half Term
Heart of the Community
Over the next few weeks, we’ll continue celebrating Heart of the Community through our Spring Term Festivals.

Enjoy Learning
In May, our theme is Enjoy Learning! We’d love to hear about the children’s hobbies and interests outside of school. If your child would like to share their passion or give a demonstration in assembly, please let their class teacher know.
Enjoy Learning Day will be on Thursday 22nd May. Children can come dressed to represent their interest—whether it’s a club uniform or activity gear. That week’s oracy homework will be all about sharing a personal interest with the class.

School Notices - A few reminders
Pencil Cases | Children in Key Stage 2 may bring pencil cases to school. Please label all items with your child’s name and ensure the case is small enough to fit on desks. Avoid bringing valuable items, as lost items are the child's responsibility. |
Lost Property | Lost property is stored in the box on the Year 5/6 playground. Feel free to check for lost items. At the end of each half term, unclaimed and unnamed items are disposed of. Please ensure all your child’s belongings are clearly labelled. |
Scooter | It’s been great to see so many families walking and scooting to school this term! Just a quick reminder—please make sure children hop off their scooters and walk across the playgrounds to keep everyone safe. |
Birthday at Pinner Wood | We love celebrating birthdays in class and through our termly birthday bunch. However, we cannot allow edible treats like sweets or cakes due to allergies and our healthy school policy. Non-edible treats, like pencils or books for the class collection, are welcome but not required. |
PE Kits | Please ensure your child wears their PE kit on PE days. As it gets warmer, they are welcome to wear shorts, but these should be black. |
Reporting Absence - reminder | Thank you for your support as we tighten up our process. If your child is absent, you must report it by 8:30 a.m. via email at attendance@pinnerwood.co.uk or call 0208 868 2468. Absences not reported by 9 a.m. will be marked as unauthorised, which could lead to fines. Please check Arbor to ensure your child’s attendance records are up to date. |
Inset Day and Change of INSET Days | A reminder that 2nd June is an Inset Day and school will be closed. Our INSET days for 2025/2026 are now Monday 1st September and Tuesday 2nd September 2025 returning to school on Wednesday 3rd September. Staff will be in school on Friday 17th July 2026 for a training day but school will be CLOSED for children. These dates have been updated on our website. |
Group Music tuition | We are currently planning our instrumental lessons at school for the next academic year. If you would like to sign your child up for this please read the guidelines here. (these are updated with additional information-please read!). Please register your child using the link provided in the guidelines or here - https://forms.gle/Nw88rTsZjpM3T53Z8 We will need responses from you ASAP. You will be set up on Arbor for deposit payments to be made. Please note that our music offer has changed for next academic year. All music lessons will now be offered from Year 3 and above (exception of violin from Year 2 and above). All existing Year 1 pupils who have music lessons will be able to continue. |
Volunteers | A huge thank you to our wonderful volunteers who are giving up their time to come and support with learning at school. Please speak to Miss Reeves if you are interested in volunteering, particularly on a Tuesday or Thursday afternoon. |
Mini Marathon in school
As it is the London Marathon this weekend, we are excited to be combining our Daily Mile initiative with the London Marathon next week. All children will be taking part in the School Mini Marathon in the school day. They will be challenged to run/walk/jog 2 miles throughout the week. On completion, children will get a certificate and hopefully, if enough children complete it, we will get a trophy from London Marathon!
St George's Day
We are excited to be a part of the St George's Day Pinner Rotary celebrations this weekend on Sunday 27th April! We have been making flags which we will be sharing in the parade this weekend.
If you would like to be a part of the parade or will be attending the event, please meet at the zebra crossing at the bottom of Bridge Street (near the Estate Agents) at 1.45 pm to begin at 2pm.
We look forward to seeing you there.
A Message from our Head Squad
This half term we are really excited! There are an array of amazing activities awaiting us at Pinner Wood. Reception will immerse themselves in fairy tales and enjoy a trip to the library. Year 1 will embark on an animal tiles project and a beach visit. Year 3 will dive into a science topic on Plants and Pollination, explore local transport history in Pinner, and visit a temple. Year 4 will delve into Viking culture through their Viking topic, class reader Viking Boy, and a Viking workshop. Year 6 will focus on their SATs preparation—so fun!
The past few weeks and the upcoming ones promise to be packed with fun-filled activities, ensuring an unforgettable experience for all. We are also excited to continue learning about and celebrating different events and festivals accross the school.

Bonnie Bird - Good News Corner
Music Grant | Well done to our Music Team for securing a £500 grant from Universal Music UK Sound Foundation that we go towards purchasing new instruments. |
Garden Grant | Well done to our Garden Team and Amy Reeves for securing £400 and the RHS Level 5 Gardening Award. With school funding very tight all of this helps us to run the high-quality provision that we want the children to have. |
Reception Places - September 2025 | 356 applications were received for our 90 places this year. This is very high and shows we are a school of choice locally. Offers have been made to 90 children and should have been received by families over Easter. Tours will resume in September 2025 for the following year. Information on how places are allocated can be found here. |

Community Events
🐣 Easter Eggstravaganza – Thank You!
A huge THANK YOU to everyone who joined us for our Easter Eggstravaganza! It was a wonderful afternoon filled with sunshine, smiles, and community spirit.
✨ Thanks to your generosity, we raised £1 700, which will go towards developing PW’s Emma’s Garden. This funding will help us build a fence and purchase a specialist greenhouse—creating a space for even more fantastic events!
🌟 A special shoutout to all our incredible staff who went above and beyond to stay and support the event.
A massive thank you to Mrs. Naik, Mrs. Edwards, Carl, Mrs. McKeon (Nursery), and Mrs. Bretayne, who organised the event so beautifully.
🍫 Every single egg at the event was a donation! Huge thanks to Sainsbury’s Pinner, Morrisons Hatch End, M&S Pinner, our amazing staff and family for their contributions. Thanks to you, we were able to hold a raffle with 62 fantastic prizes!
🎂 The Bake-Off was a showstopper! With so many creative entries, Aaron (Head Chef from Pabulum), Carl, and Frank had the tough job of judging—though we’re still debating who played the role of Mary Berry! All young bakers received 10 house points. Thank you to everyone who took part in this.
🌞 What’s Next? Summer Carnival!
After the huge success of this event, we’re dreaming even bigger! Our Summer Carnival is set for Saturday, 5th July, and working with the Friends of PW, we want to make it the biggest fair PW has ever seen! To make it happen, we’re asking for one representative from each class to help plan this exciting day. If you're interested, please get in touch via office@pinnerwood.co.uk.
It’s events like this that make our school so special. Thank you for being part of it.
Friends of Pinner Wood Colour Run
Unfortunately, due to low sign-up numbers, the Colour Run has been cancelled. A big thank you to the Friends for all their efforts—we hope to bring it back in the future when we can make it happen!
