Spring Term Round Up

Head teacher's Messages
Dear Families,
As we wrap up another fantastic term at Pinner Wood, we reflect on all that has happened.
This week, Year 6 (Changes speeches) and Year 4 (Spark speeches) took to the podium, showcasing excellent oracy skills. It was wonderful to see their confidence bloom, especially for Year 6, who first delivered speeches in Year 4—what progress! A huge thank you to our visitors and to Mrs. Lindsay Collins (former Pinner Wood Governor) for her generous donation, which has allowed us to present trophies to a selection of Year 6 tomorrow.
Today, we celebrated our annual ‘Bee You’ day, a heart-warming event where the Pinner Wood community came together to honour our diverse cultures, faiths, and heritages. As Mr. Mainwaring shared last week, this is what makes our school so special!
Tonight, we’re excited for our Easter Eggstravaganza! Get ready for fun, games, a giant Easter Hunt in the Garden and many Easter eggs. If you haven’t got a ticket yet, don’t worry—there are still some available at the door.
Looking ahead, we've organised key dates for next term, which you’ll find at the end of this newsletter. Please note that we have had to change the date for Sports Day due to a change in the Year 5 residential. Please remember, school finishes at 1:30 pm tomorrow and children can wear their own clothes.
Wishing all our families celebrating a Happy Easter and everyone a wonderful break. We look forward to welcoming you back on Tuesday, 22nd April 2025.
Take care,
Miss Marriott

Value of the Half Term - Betty Bee - Heart of our Community
This term, we've focused on Betty Bee: Heart of Our Community, reflecting on how we all contribute to it. Today, our Bee You day celebrated each person's unique role, bringing our reflections to life.
This week, we celebrated our annual BEE You Day, a special occasion dedicated to highlighting the wonderful diversity within our community. During this event, children engaged in a variety of lessons and activities designed to build self-esteem and reinforce their sense of belonging in the Pinner Wood community.
To express their individuality, children were encouraged to come to school dressed in clothing that represented them. This could include cultural attire, religious garments, club uniforms, or simply their everyday clothing. Additionally, students participated in an activity to create a class community display, further reinforcing the theme of belonging. They also took part in a lesson organised by our Modern Foreign Languages Lead, which focused on the different forms of communication present within our community and the value each brings.
We will share pictures of the day in the coming weeks!

Next term, we'll continue this focus for two more weeks before shifting to Ozzie Owl – Enjoy Learning in Week 3 (5th May). We'll explore talents, skills, and interests beyond school. If your child would like to share something in assembly (e.g., dancing, karate, something they collect or know lots about), please inform Mr. Mainwaring via the school office.
On Thursday, 22nd May, our Enjoy Learning Day will give children the chance to share a passion, club, or hobby they love!

A Round up from our Leaders
Staff Member | Update on area |
Inclusion – Mrs Bretayne | Inclusion is at the heart of everything we do at Pinner Wood. Our goal is to ensure all children are engaged in learning and making good progress. We take great pride in our work but always strive to provide the best possible experience. Last Friday, Dr. Janice Howkins, our SEND advisor, conducted a review. A former Headteacher and current Ofsted inspector, Dr. Howkins observed a small group of pupils on our SEN register, met with staff, and visited our Acorns Centre. The visit was overwhelmingly positive. Key highlights include:
We are delighted with these findings. Despite rising SEN needs and limited funding, we are proud to provide this level of support. |
Sporting News Mr O’Brien | The children have been busy learning a range of new skills in their PE lessons and have just finished completing their second round of Inter-House games. Will Ruby be able to retain the trophy, or will a new house become our Inter-House champions? This half term, children from Year 5 were chosen to take part in a Hockey Outreach Programme at Merchant Taylors. The children had so much fun learning how to play hockey and cannot wait to show off their new skills in their PE lessons. Pinner Wood has had a very successful half term with out-of-school competitions, as our Year 6 boys' football team went unbeaten in their league, topping the league with 3 wins and 2 draws, conceding 0 goals. We look forward to watching the boys represent the school in the finals. Our Year 6 netball team had a match against another school, where they played brilliantly and worked hard as a team. Well done to all those involved. |
Music News Mrs Stephenson and Mrs Kraft | First I would like to thank Aniya, Iris and Shaivi for stepping up and playing their instruments in Assembly alongside two musicians from Harrow Music Service (HMS). They have been learning at school for the past few years and the pupils and Teachers were impressed. We are lucky to have HMS tutors providing a wide range of instrumental tuition. Thank you to those parents who have signed up for tuition for next academic year; there are a few spaces left so please do let us know as soon as possible if your child is interested. Pinner Wood musical talent was celebrated on stage at Elliot Hall during both the fantastic Choir Showcase and the String Fest. The children relished the opportunity to perform together and with pupils from other schools. Well done! Thank you to all the parents who supported these events. Congratulations to the Year 3’s whose Percussion Project culminated this half term in a wonderful performance! Year 5’s enjoyed a musical trip to the Barbican this week to participate in a performance of ‘The Lost Thing’ by the London Symphony Orchestra. We were fortunate to have the composer of the music presenting the entire concert and had the opportunity to sing along to the full orchestra. Finally, a huge thank you to the Universal Music UK Sound Foundation for giving us funds towards music equipment and instruments for the Acorns Centre. |
Curriculum and Sustainability Miss Reeves | What a term! It is amazing to see so many new and exciting opportunities we are able to provide our children, alongside the links and connections we are making with other schools. Some highlights have been the outreach work we are starting with Merchant Taylors with a hockey club starting here after the break, the brilliant Dance Squad showcase at Hatch End High School, the huge uptake for our reading and maths family workshops and welcoming a number of visitors for the Oracy Project and Year 6 Change Speeches. Meeting our subject leaders this half term has really shown how strong, ambitious and exciting our Pinner Wood curriculum is...and our leaders are not slowing down! Next term we have even more to look forward to including STEAM week, a huge number of new clubs and showcasing our Art work. In Sustainability news, we ran a very successful Walk and Wheel fortnight where we saw lots more children walking, cycling, biking or taking part in the Walking Bus to get to school. Our children also stepped up and helped tidy the garden and litter picked around the school as part of the Big School Clean. Our Eco Refill shop continues each month alongside our Refill Station in the cabin where we serve tea, coffee and hot chocolate at least one Friday a month - don't forget to bring a cup! We are also excited to have applied for and received a grant of £500 from Plastic Clever Schools which we will be using to support eliminate single use plastic from our school! Next half term will be Walk to School Week and we will also be applying again for our Green Flag award. I also wanted to say a huge thank you for all our reading volunteers and classroom volunteers who continue to work alongside our children to help and support their learning - you are all amazing! |
Oracy Updates Miss Thomas | A brilliant term for Oracy with some highlights being:
|
School Business Matters Mrs Tong | The site and office team have been hard at work behind the scenes, supporting the school’s fundraising events and ensuring everything runs smoothly and successfully. Alongside this, preparations are well underway for the upcoming 2025/26 academic year. For example: managing music tuition on behalf of Harrow Music Services; preparing for new admissions to Nursery/Reception and making sure everything is in place. There is a lot to coordinate, but we are excited to welcoming new children. |
Our social media really does show all off all the amazing events and activities at Pinner Wood - please follow us @pinnerwoodsch |

A huge well done to all our Year 6 pupils who made their amazing Change Speeches this week. Another big thank you to all our visitors and guests who came to listen to the speeches.
This year, we are delighted to be presenting the 'Lindsey Collins Oracy Awards', sponsored by our former Governor Lindsey. The winners of the awards go to children who presented with confidence and passion. Well done to:

Dreaming Big - A Message from our Head Squad
This term at Pinner Wood, an abundance of exciting activities have taken place. Starting with the youngest year, Reception has enjoyed a variety of thrilling experiences over the past few weeks. They began their term with the Travel and Transport topic, creating prototype cars. They thoroughly enjoyed Read Write Inc and their ‘Now Press Play’ session about transport. They built an airport and crafted blue passports for check-in. They also took a trip to the park on the H13 bus, where they fed the ducks.
Year 1 showcased their daily life project and had a memorable trip to Bekonscot. Eliza, from Palm Class, said, “We liked it, but it was a little wet. We loved playing on the pole.” Year 2 visited a synagogue in Northwood, where they were fascinated by the scrolls on display. Year 3 delighted in making kites and sewing travel pillows, watching the Aladdin pantomime, and their trip to Verulamium was a huge success. They enjoyed activities like ice pops, biscuit decorating, and crafting foam chicks.
Year 4 embraced their Rainforest speech and participated in a two-week swimming programme. Year 5 explored the Science Museum, engaged in a Greek workshop, and worked on their hockey skills in P.E. Year 6 loved the thrilling Wicked theatre trip. Zachariah, the Values Ambassador for Heart of the Community, commented, “We loved the Docklands Museum. It was so informative, and we had a fantastic time!” These are just some of the captivating activities that have taken place over the past few weeks.
Looking ahead to next half term, an array of amazing activities awaits Pinner Wood. Reception will immerse themselves in fairy tales and enjoy a trip to the library. Year 1 will embark on an animal tiles project and a beach visit. Year 3 will dive into a science topic on Plants and Pollination, explore local transport history in Pinner, and visit a temple. Year 4 will delve into Viking culture through their Viking topic, class reader Viking Boy, and a Viking workshop. Year 6 will focus on their SATs preparation—so fun!
The past few weeks and the upcoming ones promise to be packed with fun-filled activities, ensuring an unforgettable experience for all. To everyone who celebrated Eid, Eid Mubarak!
