PE Curriculum

PE Curriculum

At Pinner Wood we offer a wide range of chances for the children to engage in sport. During our PE lessons we use 'real PE' to develop the skills of the children. The children are able to work at their own pace and challenge themselves when they feel ready. We would like all children to enjoy PE and therefore allow them to take charge of their own learning. We also teach children Outdoor and Adventurous Activities, Health and Fitness, Gymnastics, Dance, Athletics, Invasion Games and Net/Wall games. In year 4 the children go swimming as part of the National Curriculum.

We offer many extra-curricular activities to the children run by both teachers and outside agencies. Teachers offer clubs ranging from football and tag rugby to gymnastics. We enter competitions in the Borough through these clubs. A change4life club is run by our learning mentor. This club is designed to encourage less active children to become more active.

With the Sports Premium funding we have been able to introduce many good things to PE. We now have the 'real PE' scheme of work by Create Development which enables the teachers to teach the skills needed to participate not only in sport but every day activities. The year 5's have received training in the exciting sport Korfball and this inspired a group of children to attend a competition outside of school hours on their own. On the playground, an adult sports leader was employed to run activities for the children to engage them in more active playtimes. Life Channel Televisions have also been installed on the playgrounds showing the children different activities they can do keep active.

Clare has become a valuable member of the Pinner Wood family. Her help both in and out of the classroom is invaluable, the impact she has had on the children is immeasurable. We will let the children speak for themselves on how she has changed their perception of PE.

Quotes:

“Mrs Ellis introduced me to my love of skipping.” Joshua O, Year 6

“Mrs Ellis is a really great PE teacher and always helps out in PE. She is really good at having fun and making sport a really great thing.” Alexandra, Year 6

“Without her I wouldn’t be able to beat my 19 year old cousin at netball. She is not only our teacher, she is our Pinner Wood friend.” Crina, Year 6
