Pinner Wood School Governing Body

The Governing Body at Pinner Wood is made up of a team of fourteen committed staff, parents and members of the local community who have responsibility for raising school standards through their three core functions of:

  • Ensuring a clear vision, ethos and strategic direction are in place
  • Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils; and
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

The headteacher is responsible for the day-to-day management of the school and the role of the Governing Body is to provide strategic management, and to act as a "critical friend", supporting the work of the headteacher and other staff.

The full Governing Body meet once a term and there are also three sub-committees that each meet twice a term:

  • Resources Committee  - which focuses on personnel matters, finance, health and safety, building and the ongoing maintenance and upkeep of the school.
  • Curriculum and Achievement Committee - which focuses on changes and the implementation of the curriculum, setting standards and monitoring attainment and progress of our pupils
  • Children, Families and Community Committee - which focuses on communication with our stakeholders and building links with our community.

Public minutes for all Governing Body meetings are available on request. Please contact the school office for more details.

Clerk to the Governors

Gaynor Harrison

Below is a list of the Governors, if you wish to read their biography just click on their name.

Deb Spruce (Head)

I joined Pinner Wood in October 2007 because I was struck by the tremendous potential of the new school and I liked the way it embodied London in the 21st Century. Before Harrow I worked in Luton for nine years as a Senior School Improvement Partner and OFSTED inspector. This gave me the opportunity to work with many schools. Prior to that I was Head of a Hertfordshire primary school for nine years – can you see a pattern here! I am enjoying my work at Pinner Wood. I believe we can make a difference here and we do.

Sarah Marriott (Deputy Head)

I joined Pinner Wood in September 2012.  From the moment I stepped through the door, I was struck by the energy and vibrancy around the school.  This is a very exciting place to learn and work.  Pinner Wood is a school which puts children right at the heart of everything, and this is an ethos that I am totally committed to.

For me, teaching is the only career I ever wanted to do - I think it was in my blood! Before Pinner Wood, I have worked at two primary schools in Hertfordshire as a teacher, Assistant Head teacher and Deputy Head.  I have taught through the year groups, from reception to year six, so feel that I have lots of valuable experiences that I can bring to my role here.

I am really enjoying being part of Pinner Wood and believe that we make a difference to the children that come here.

Didi Chapman  (Parent Governor)

In my role as a govenor I am 100% committed to working in the best interests of all pupils in the school within a happy, safe and caring enviroment.  I am very passionate about education and believe that every child must be encouraged to reach their full potential. I have 10 years of experience working in pratice as a qualified accountant and I look forward to transferring my skills as required in my new role.

Peter Hynes  (Co-opted Governor)

I came to Pinner Wood four years ago to complete my PGCE and I didn’t want to leave! I fell into teaching after completing my degree and can honestly say it will be my profession for probably the rest of my life as it is so incredibly rewarding. Over the four years I have taught in two key stages, as well as leading Computing across the school. I look forward to using my knowledge of the curriculum and the school to make a difference to the children at Pinner Wood.

Nadia Ali (Parent Governor)

My background is in herbal medicine, and my interest is the world, history, politics and science. I hope to contribute as much as I possibly can, whether it is the extra pair of hands, or just more ideas and diversity to the school and the governing body.

Lindsay Collins  (Local Authority Governor)

I have been a Pinner Wood School's Governor for over 19 years, firstly as a Parent Governor in the two schools when my three children were at Pinner Wood First and Middle Schools. Subsequently I have also served as a Co-opted Governor and continue now as a Local Authority Governor. During this time I have served variously as Chair of Governors (to both Schools), Vice Chair of Governors and also Chair on many of the schools' Committees. I have seen the school through a number of changes, including amalgamation and continue to be involved in work to improve the school for the children, and support the teachers and staff to make Pinner Wood one of the best schools in the area. I also support the Friends of Pinner Wood School and help at their two main annual events.

Carolyn Hector  (Parent Governor)

With a child starting at Pinner Wood School I am now increasingly aware of the importance of a good education for all children.  I am passionate about the challenge of making a great school even better and I am committed to making a real difference to Pinner Wood.  My role as Head of Marketing and Development in a large Financial Services organisation has provided me with strong skills in planning, organisation and budget management. I hope these skills start to drive change and improvement in my role as a Parent Governor.

Mrs Bushra Anwar (Parent Govenor)

As a parent, student and an educator, I am passionate about the impact of a nurturing, academically challenging and stimulating school on children’s educational as well as personal growth. I work in Primary Schools as a children’s mental health therapist and am also pursuing a postgraduate qualification in adolescent and family therapy. My experience in schools, families and with vulnerable children drives my desire to get the best for all the children at PWS as well as for their families and the wider community and gives me a solid basis for supporting and taking forward leadership in core school governance and ensuring a holistic and encompassing approach to education for the whole school beyond simply targets.

Mr Sailen Rampuria   (Parent Govenor)

I am an I.T professional and have been working for a large energy company for over 16 years. My various roles within the company have given me experience in managing large complex projects as well as experience within the security, audit, compliance and risk management domains. I have 2 children at the school, having also been a pupil at Pinner Wood and a resident of Pinner all of my life I feel passionate about helping the school achieve all that it can. I believe that children will learn to the very best of their ability if they enjoy their education and thus hope to help the school continue its success in this regard.

Christina Bach  (Co-opted Governor)

Before training as a teacher I worked for 10 years in Local Government, mainly in the areas of Education and Local Government Law.
I have been teaching at Pinner Wood since 1997. I am a member of the Senior Leadership Team and lead on Ethnic Minority Achievement, throughout the school. At present I teach a Year 5 class.
I have two daughters who were both educated in Harrow schools.
I am committed to working towards the goal of every child in our school achieving their true potential.

Andrew Mortimer  (Co-opted Governor)

I am a chartered architect, employer and company director of a medium sized practice of architects. I have experience of governance, with 6 years as an elected Board Member of the Architects Registration Board (the UK’s statutory regulator for Architects). I am also a parent with two children at the school and a neighbour to the school.
I am passionate about the quality of the spaces and places where we live, work and play. I believe that high quality environments enhance our experiences and our children's education. I am particularly hoping to assist in the positive expansion of the school and the ongoing improvement of the learning environment to allow the staff, pupils and their families to prosper at Pinner Wood.

Shaheen Saib  (Co-opted Governor)

I am continuously amazed and humbled by the genuine passion that teachers, parents and all staff have for the development and progression of the children that attend this school. My passion for the education sector came as I served as a Teaching Assistant for a number of inner city primary schools in Manchester during my time at University. I have since then formed a career in International Development and HR, whereby I have worked on Education policy and helped developing countries understand the importance and necessity of good governance structure in schooling systems. My current role at a small NGO working in Africa has provided me with the skills and knowledge around good governance and HR structure that enable high performance in all parts of the business. I have areal desire to give back to the local community and bring my expertise in the field of HR to a borough and community that I myself grew up and was schooled in. I am fully committed to the ethos of the school that puts it's students first, and look forward to the chance to experience and embody the culture of the school in order to ensure that we are really making a difference to the students that attend Pinner Wood.

Nishal Khimasia  (Co-opted Governor)

I am trained as a Chartered Accountant and have worked in senior management positions within the private sector for over 15 years.  I was keen to use this experience to help out my community and was delighted to have been asked to join as a governor for Pinner Wood School.  There are many similarities between balancing opportunities and the challenges the school faces and the work I do.  I believe that my experiences will help me provide sound oversight to our growing school.

Through my own experiences, I have great appreciation of the importance of education, both academic and co-curricular.  As a board member, my focus will be to support the school to ensure it can secure the necessary resources to develop in both these areas.  The education that Pinner Wood School children receive is critical to their future in an increasingly global society.  A well-educated society will be a stronger society.  Pinner Wood School has high goals for student achievement, and I am proud to support efforts to reach those goals.
